PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- The Khmer Rouge tribunal said its trial chamber would conduct a further initial hearing on Wednesday into the case against Khieu Samphan and Nuon Chea.

Charges covered by the hearing, which follows an initial hearing in 2011, include genocide of Cham and Vietnamese people, crimes against humanity and grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions of 1949.

In a statement released Monday, the tribunal said the hearing would consider civil party reparations, objections and legal issues, sequencing of proceedings and initial review of potential witnesses, civil parties and experts.

Khieu Samphan served as head of state during the Pol Pot regime from 1975 to 1979 while Nuon Chea was deputy secretary general of the Communist Party of Kampuchea.
