PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) – The opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party president Sam Rainsy says that he will be lawmaker representing Kampong Cham province by replacing Kuoy Bunroeun who will be member of National Election Committee.
“My colleagues prepared documents, and have already submitted to NEC”, he said late Wednesday .
He added the reshuffle would be done before the CNRP's 55 lawmakers-elect hold swearing-in ceremony in front of King.
Rainsy couldn't stand as a parliamentary candidate in the last July general election after his name was removed from the election list by the NEC which claimed that Sam Rainsy was a convict after he was sentenced to 12 years in jail by Phnom Penh Municipal Court for uprooting border poles and disinformation.
Tep Nitha, secretary general of National Election Committee, said that CNRP could make Sam Rainsy become legitimate lawmaker through updating its election candidate registration and asking one of its lawmakers to resign to be replaced by Sam Rainsy.
