PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Khmer Kampuchea Krom Association and the Khmer Youth League for Democracy will hold anti-Vietnam protest from 4-8 October, according to Thach Setha, president of the association.
In a letter Friday to Phnom Penh governor Pa Socheat Vong, Thach Setha said around 2,000 people will rally at the Freedom Park every day for five days before marching along the streets in Phnom Penh to express their opinion in front of Vietnamese Embassy, and present petitions to foreign embassies as well as national institution.
We will hold the protest because there is no yet apology letter from the Vietnamese government to Cambodian people, Setha said.
Phnom Penh City Hall hasn't yet responded or granted them permission.
Khmer Kampuchea Krom Association and the Khmer Youth League for Democracy have staged a series of anti-Vietnam protests to demand apology and recognition of Kampuchea Krom history from Vietnam after a Vietnamese spokesman claimed recently that Kampuchea Krom, now in southern part of Vietnam, has been Vietnamese territory a long time ago, and France never detached the land to it.
So far the Vietnamese Embassy spokesman Trang Van Thung hasn't appeared to make public apology over his comment which provoked outrage among Cambodian people.
Vietnam's Deputy Foreign Minister told Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Namhong during his recent visit to Cambodia that Vietnamese government would soon remove Trang Van Thung from his post at Vietnamese Embassy in Phnom Penh.

This is my view of the Mekong delta (Khmer Krom).
1. The Ming Chines arrived Mekong delta en mass, running away from Quing empire during the late 1600s.
2. By 1700s, the Ming Chinese refused to pay tax to the Khmer Kingdom. Then Ming Chinese asked to join Vietnam for protection from the Thais.
3. By 1800s, France attacked Vietnam then signed a series of treaty, each time France took a larger chunks of Mekong delta from Vietnam.
4. In 1949, France returned Mekong delta to Vietnam.
To say Khmer lost Khmer Krom in 1949 because of France is wrong. France will hate Khmer for this. I would say when the Ming Chinese refused to pay tax to Khmer Kingdom and Khmer could not do anything about it was when Khmer Krom was lost. That was almost 300 years ago.
Khmer folks are playing dirty tricks claiming Khmer Krom lost in 1949, then the next step is to say, "Hey, we did not lose it that long, we can reclaim." But the reality is, Khmer lost Khmer Krom 300 years ago.
By pushing the issue, now Khmer will gain more enemy. France will not treat Khmer kindly over the trouble you want to put onto France. Khmer have a habit of doing things without consider the consequence.

I'll reveal Thais' secret of success in sacking Khmer capital. You see, Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom were built on slaves' labor. Most slaves were captured and defeated soldiers of Khmer's enemies.
