Journalist shot dead in Kratie [by timber traders?]

PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- A journalist were shot dead by timber trader between Saturday-Sunday in Snuol district of Kratie province.

Snuol district police inspector said Tang Tri, journalist from Khmer Democratic Journalist Association, was shot on his eyebrow while he was in a car.

A victim and his friend drove the car to collect information about the transportation of timber by traders in Ksoem commune of Snuol before the shooting.

At the scene the timber trader asked journalists to negotiate, but led to shooting when they could not negotiate.

Police said after shooting the victim dead, the gunman got on his Lexus 470, and fled the scene.

Sath Seth who was on the car with the journalist shot dead was being questioned by police.

Oul Chhay, Snuol commanding officer, said Sunday that police are currently investigation the case to identify and capture the gunman.

Police arrested a car driver who worked for Heang, a timber businessman who allegedly may be involved in the this case, for questioning.
