Raid on Coffee Business Nets 9 Illegal Vietnamese

BY  | OCTOBER 21, 2014
Nine illegal Vietnamese immigrants were arrested during a raid on a coffee importer in Phnom Penh on Monday as part of an ongoing nationwide census of foreigners in the country, an immigration official said.
The Vietnamese arrested at the Hoang Ang 686 Import-Export coffee business in Tuol Tumpoung I commune included five men and four women, none of whom had the necessary residency documents, said Uk Heisela, chief of investigations at the Interior Ministry’s immigration department.
“We sent them to the general department of immigration for questioning and we will send them back to their country,” he said. Mr. Heisela said the vast majority of the foreigners deported as a result of the census have been Vietnamese.

“Since beginning the census in Phnom Penh, we have arrested and deported nearly 100 Vietnamese…. Across the whole country, we have deported between 560 and 570 foreigners and more than 400 of those were Vietnamese,” he said, predicting that the census will be wrapped up by the end of the year.
