[UK's] Plymouth student set to broaden his horizons with Cambodia trip

A TEENAGER is hoping to broaden his knowledge and help people in need with a trip to South East Asia.
Sam Vincent, aged 15, will help with a project to build a school and improve community facilities in a Cambodian village in summer 2016.
Sam will join a group of fellow students at Ivybridge Community College in raising money for the trip over the next 18 months.
He hopes to reach his target of £3,500 by arranging a host of events including bag packing sessions, car boot sales and selling some of his possessions on eBay.
“I really love travelling and helping people, it will be a good opportunity for me,” Sam said.
“We will be trying to change the locals’ lives through improving their educational facilities, helping them produce more food through more sustainable farming techniques and other projects to help the local community.”
The project is being organised by Camps International through the school, and Sam says he expects it to be a once in a lifetime experience.
“I think it’s going to be really different to what I know,” he said. “It’s going to be quite eye-opening how other people in the world live.
“I will be living the traditional life of people in Cambodia, eating their food, stuff like that.
“I will also be going on a four-day trek through the jungle and finding out about the history of Cambodia.”

Sam says he has never travelled outside Europe and is looking forward to the challenge.
“I have been to France and Portugal when I was really young, but I have always really wanted to travel, that’s the one thing I have always wanted.”
The money Sam raises will go towards the cost of his flight, visa and vaccinations.
