Rainsy Faces Tough Questions from CNRP in USA

PHNOM PENH (Khmer Times) – On his month-long tour of the United States, Cambodian National Rescue Party (CNRP) President Sam Rainsy appears rattled by tough questions.

A comment from a “supporter” at a CNRP event in Oakland, California, went viral via Facebook. An elderly man stood up and charged: “In the 2013 election, [you said] if the NEC is not changed, you will not participate in the National Assembly. So why accept the deal now? Many mandates have passed already. By 2018, there will be no land, no more monks, no more Cambodians, and everyone will become slaves.”

During the aftermath of the national election in 2013, both Mr. Rainsy and his deputy president, Kem Sokha, promised their supporters that the CNRP would boycott the National Assembly (NA) because they believed the election was rigged.

Responding to the man’s comments, Mr. Rainsy said: “We cannot say that we will never enter the NA. If we did, we would destroy the National Assembly. If we won’t go to the National Assembly, who will amend the laws? Who will change the NEC? If we want a proper election, we must have a proper NEC and be involved.”

Back in Phnom Penh, CNRP spokesman Yem Ponhearith shot down charges of flip-flopping, stating that the CNRP made choices based on what was best for the country, not for the party itself.

“There is nothing opposite about our stance,” he said. “When we say ‘going to National Assembly,’ we mean we are going under our own conditions and going to discuss and find solutions.”

“We joined the NA to balance the power at parliament, organize the heads of the National Assembly, and be acknowledged as the minority party,” he said. “These are the points that made us enter the national assembly; to change the NEC, change voter registration list, etc.”

Kem Ley, founder Khmer for Khmer, said: “That’s an unclear political stance for the CNRP, and it will negatively impact the CNRP’s popularity for next national election.”

I agree with one point, if the head of a political party move the goal post to fast and so many time, it will cause turmoil, suspicious and untrustworthy from their followers . We are Khmer constituencies can't change mind that fast, if my memorizing is not wrong, first you incite Khmer supporters for a recounted vote , soon you change to the theme Change and Hun Sen get out. The popular theme is flamboyance the recount of the voting fraud vane out, Hun Sen get scare of the united and popular theme of Change who agitate his gut, he have order troop to move in and protect there power, and start to use a trick of intimidation .But i see you a leader with small gut,can not stand strong in front of opposition menace soon you team move to another goal post by soften the demand for remove the regime to rectify the NEC . Hun Sen have a lot less educate but act smarter than you, They start to put you as a punch back in his political come back by use more venom tactic grab all your diehards supporter and put in jail . He call you to a secret negotiation, because they know for sure that their plan will succeed, you will agree under his pressure and move the goal post again . You can see Mr leader with no gut you completely fail the test as a strong political leadership . The NEC exchange for full recognize and legitimate of the law the fraudulence government, who stole your vote counted . This is a grave mistake you make to put aside the diligent effort from Khmer grass root poor who share a pain and grief day and night, hot sun or cold rain . Dictator strategy win, he know quite well about your inferior mentality in front a brutality . And finally , your team start to be happy( in the tearful of Khmer supporter who sacrifice life of your cause)to get a new job given by dictator regime . The NEC is unsolved Hun Sen roar like a wound Lion in the triumphal mode again to take the negotiation away if you the CNRP under your leadership can't go head in their way . You bend your head to him and agree, you can see this new NEC is almost the same mechanism of control by dictator regime . Now you spend a lot of money to go around the world and tried to sell the culture of peaceful none criticism and work together with the 30 years repression regime is not far from a toad who go around and sale the medicine for cure the same skin disease they have for life. I am independent mind but i want to help my dear people to have freedom and more, i am apologize to criticize you but with frank and in a constructive way and for democratic policy in Khmer daily life . We Khmer lost opportunity to a peaceful and democratic rule of law so long almost all our young Khmer generation cannot remember it . Any leaders , when they come up to power, they all time demagogue claim with no shame, that they will rule this country with democratic and peaceful tendency ,but never happen .

I agreed with CNRP man of his questions. I disagreed some. I am 100% convinced that CNRP won 2013 election. Sam Rainsy put up a good fight to gain powers from CPP/Hanoi. The problems are that almost all RCAF & civilian police are on CPP side. Most of business elites depended on CPP in powers to do their usual corruptions Many of foreign companies in Cambodia had done bad practices so they pressured their respective governments to reconized CPP winner. The CNRP should had stay on nation wide non-violence mass protests whether CPP allow it or not. To join CPP and reformed NEC was also correct but an NEC dominated by CPP still make me nervous. Every nations on Earth usually gained independent and freedom with a price to pay. I agreed we should not cause violence but to gain powers from this puppet CPP I am afraid unavoidable.
